GarageBand lets you create music of your very own. If you're already a musician, you'll probably flip over GarageBand; it combines the CD-quality samples of Apple's Soundtrack software with the hard-disk recording features of Digital Performer and the canned rhythm tracks of Band in a Box. But what's really mind-boggling is the way this program can turn the inspiration of musical novices into commercial-sounding demos. Imagine how many thousands of singers and instrumentalists, though blessed with enormous native talent, remain undiscovered because they lack recording studios and backup bands. For them, GarageBand may open a lot of doors--or just offer a lot of fun.

Comment: Great cover of so many things that are not obvious in GarageBand.
I use Cubase for my recording, but my kids are on Mac and GarageBand
keeps them off the my FW1082 DAW and from messing with my Cubase settings... They have an 8 port Alesis Firewire for mixing and
GarageBand seems to do all they need for their YouTube stuff and
burning CD's for friends. This book has helped them find some advanced features to add some professionalism to their work

Comment: It was no doubt great when it was published three years ago but time, and the Garage Band software, have moved on. This book has not.

Summary: GarageBand: The Missing Manual Delivers As Promised
Comment: Although I would have preferred the new edition outlining the latest version of GarageBand, this book gave me what I wanted. I was able to finally USE GarageBand, whereas before I couldn't figure out how to do anything with it. The "missing manual" idea comes through again! Sometimes, you just need to read the manual.
I find that I can use this book more as reference material and I haven't read it cover-to-cover as I often do with books of this nature. Since I received it during a busy time in my life, I found that helpful. I know I'll refer to it often as I create new projects in GarageBand.
If you're wondering whether or not to wait for the updated version of GarageBand: The Missing Manual, but you need to have this reference material NOW, I'd encourage you to go for it! You'll be glad you did.

Comment: After using Apple's super-duper Garageband for about a month now, I finally decided on picking up a supplement book. I read through 4 of them (I work at a library), and knowing what was needed to be in there, I can now confidently announce: THIS is the one to get.
